BUYING VOGUE > BUYING DINNER; A few of Sex And The City's most iconic looks! 2019 Edition!
In the (paraphrased) words of Carrie Bradshaw, sometime fashion does triumph over dinner. And this rings especially true when it comes to her iconic style on Sex and the City.
Whether you’re a 90’s fan or someone who casually followed her style evolution throughout the show and beyond, you cannot deny that Sarah Jessica Parker is a fashion icon for the ages. From her playful mix of high-end and trendy pieces worn as Carrie on Sex and the City to her eclectic everyday wear for the red carpets, she has totally changed the name of the game.
And we’ve got some good news – these iconic looks from her 90’s heyday are totally back with a vengeance, popping up everywhere from fast-fashion stores to haute couture runways and more. We’re totally ready to get in on each and every single one of these trends and embrace our inner Carrie.
Without further ado, here are our top five favorite 90’s comebacks for 2019 rocked by the one and only SJP.
THE NEWSPAPER DRESS
First up on our list is absolutely the iconic newspaper dress. One of our all-time favorite Carrie looks, this baby totally revolutionized the styles of the 90’s and is (finally!) making a comeback.
Source: THE REFORMATION
Our favorite newspaper dress of the moment? Absolutely the Lindsay dress from The Reformation. We are totally obsessed with the body-skimming style and thin spaghetti straps – so modern yet totally 90’s inspired!
THE LONG FAUX FUR COAT
Next up on our list is one of Carrie’s most iconic looks – the oversized faux fur coat. Every time she rocked this look on Sex and the City we just about died of happiness inside.
If you want to get in on this look for yourself, we’d highly recommend the Teddy Coat by Lovers + Friends. This baby is totally faux (of course) and has a super chic oversized collar, which is super flattering, especially given the oversized shape.
THE ICONIC TANK DRESS
Who could forget her iconic mini tank dress? One of our all-time favorite classics, this bad boy has always stuck in our memories as one of the most wearable and timeless styles from the show’s history.
SOURCE: Banana Republic
The modern version of this LBD gets a little update with a longer hemline, as seen in this totally gorgeous dress from Banana Republic. We love the high neckline and sleeveless shape paired with the body-hugging design – we’re totally getting one in each color ASAP.
What is more iconic of the 90’s than the saddlebag? Well, even if you could come up with a few things, we’re totally sticking with this super staple that graced the small screens on Sex and the City among many other 90’s shows.
If you’re on the hunt for the perfect timeless saddlebag, make sure you take a look at this one by COACH. This color-blocked design is one of our favorite modern updates, especially with the cool black and white combo.

THE STRAPPY HEELED SANDAL
Last, but certainly not least, on our menu of must-have Carrie Bradshaw’s essentials are the mid-height strappy sandal. A holy grail of the 90’s, these babies have made quite the comeback for 2019.
Our favorite iteration of 90’s-inspired strappy sandals is totally this pair of snakeskin heels from Zara. The color is so unexpectedly chic and, in combination with the playful pattern, these babies will stay in-style through fall and winter.
