LAYERING 102:
A CRASH COURSE IN ADVANCED LAYERING

If you read our Layering 101 post last week, welcome to the next level! We’re going to take what we talked about last week up a notch and focus on other ways you can totally add layering to your springtime look.

Forget the basics – it’s time for an advanced course. Here are our five favorite ways to add unexpected layering to any look.

ADD A LITTLE TEXTURE PLAY

So – last week we talked about monochromatic layering. This week we’re taking it to a whole new level – textured single color layers. This is a great way to capitalize on the all-white everything trend going around without looking too blah or expected.

Go for pieces with subtle contrasting patterns or textures, like this totally gorgeous look from model Gizele Oliveira.

SHOP IT:

THE FLIRTY SHORTS – Gold Foil Print Floaty Shorts, PLT $35

THE KNIT TOP – Sweater Knit Tank Top, Forever21 $14.90

ACCESSORIZE, ACCESSORIZE, ACCESSORIZE!

Next up on our list is layering with accessories. Yes – this totally counts! By layering up in the accessories department, whether it’s adding a necklace or two or throwing on a cute coat, you can absolutely take on this trend and look totally put together at the same time, too.

Take it from Victoria’s Secret model, Jasmine Tookes – sometimes more is absolutely better.

SHOP IT:

THE PERFECT BLAZER – Floral Print Blazer, Zara $69.90

THE SIMPLE MATCHING BAG – Woven Box Bag, Zara $49.90

PLAY UP THE LENGTH

Don’t be afraid to play with different lengths when you layer up – this is a great way to experiment with different proportions without looking like you’re trying too hard.

THE MINI SKIRT – Black Faux Leather Skirt, PLT $45

TRY A SHORT SKIRT AND A LONG JACKET

All CAKE jokes aside, this 90’s trend is totally back in full swing this spring and summer. Try throwing on a longer jacket when you’re wearing a short skirt for a super chic proportion-play that will give you legs for days.
